GISHWHES (the Greatest Scavenger Hunt The World Has Ever Seen) is a huge, international scavenger hunt that promotes silliness, random acts of kindness and charity. I participated for the first time this year. I was amazing! It was exhausting and liberating and hilarious. This picture was one of the items we had to acquire. A multi-generational, gender-swapped Sears-style family photo.
My mom and my daughter were, of course, both just as thrilled to do this as I was. These are my favorite photos I have ever taken with my family (which is saying something!). I hope this makes you smile as much as it does us.
The world is full of really difficult things right now. I am not capable to truly and deeply understanding how it feels to be in an epidemic or in a neighborhood where children get shot or existing as a refugee. My life has simply not had these experiences. I do know what it is like to be poor, to see abuse of people that don’t deserve it, to watch health be eaten away by disease, to be suicidal and depressed. It is as close as I can get to true empathy.
I want to ease pain, to actively help the people and the world. The best I can do right now is to be kind, to share smiles, share of myself with others. This is the change I want to see in the world. I know that when I am hurting, something like this helps me. So please, enjoy and then spread your joy around for me.
